Windows drivers, otherwise known as device drivers, are the ones that a computer needs in order to fully function. They are small programs that interface with the hardware found on a computer, which is usually found on the motherboard. The hardware found on a motherboard can include: Graphics cards and motherboards
Wireless cards and motherboards
Video cards and motherboards
Audio cards and motherboards
Bluetooth cards and motherboards
Hard drives and motherboards
Sensors and motherboards
This is usually accompanied by many other components that can also include:
Network cards
USB cards
Other cards that interact with hardware found on the motherboard
Often times the components are found on a motherboard, as seen above, or elsewhere on a computer.
The most common way that Windows detects when a device is present is through the use of system drivers. A system driver is a device driver that is part of the operating system and runs on top of an application that needs to use that device. For example, video drivers are part of the operating system and run on top of applications that want to use a graphics card to produce graphics.
Before we go into system drivers, there are also device drivers that can be installed. These are application specific drivers that interact with a particular piece of hardware. For example, web cam drivers are for web cams and other similar devices.
DriverPack Solution was designed to help you install all of the device drivers that you need at any given time without having to update the entire operating system at once. The system is designed to also automatically remove the unused devices from your computer, which saves you some disk space.
Types of Drivers
Device drivers can be installed and removed from Windows based on two types of drivers. System drivers and application specific drivers.
System drivers are the ones that are found in the operating system, such as the video drivers, audio drivers, and mouse drivers, among others. These are usually installed by the manufacturer of the device. As such, they can vary from one operating system to another. For example, when Microsoft Windows 10 released, they changed the method of downloading device drivers from their previous method of downloading all of the drivers from their website in a single package, to their new method, in which a new package is downloaded
